NEW HAVEN POLICE MAKE ARREST AND SEIZE THOUSANDS OF PIRATED CDS AND DVDS
(10/30/2008) NEW HAVEN- New Haven Police arrested 50-year-old Leonard Draines on Wednesday for the illegal sale of thousands of counterfeit CD’s and DVD’s. Draines was arrested under the charges of the prohibited manufacturing/sale of recordings, distribution of prohibited recordings and transfer/sale of protected recordings. Police seized 2.984 DVDs and hundreds of CDs from Draines at the sales location he set up inside of Kevin’s Seafood at 17 Kimberly Avenue.
Among the items sold by Draines were numerous pirated movies on DVD that have only recently been released in theaters nationwide. Draines is a West Haven resident.
Draines’ arrest demonstrates the Department’s enhanced vigilance toward the sale of counterfeit and pirated material from the music and motion pictures industries. New Haven is responsive to the challenges the Recording Industries Association of America (RIAA) and the Motion Pictures Association of America (MPAA) face concerning the illegal sale and reproduction of their material.
